When buying a murphy bed or murphy bed, sooner or later we face the dilemma of choosing the right one mattress.
Our customers often ask if a regular mattress will work in this solution.
And if not, how to choose a mattress to optimally take advantage of the advantages of a murphy bed.
We usually suggest that our customers buy a murphy bed with a mattress included.
But this is not necessary. You can buy such a mattress on its own. It may also turn out that we already have one like that at home.
Here are some practical tips that will come in handy when making such a purchase.
Mattress size
Since the bed is precisely closed vertically in the built-in unit, the mattress must be the size that is ideally suited to the bed frame. Otherwise, the bed will close. At Transforms we offer frames for mattresses from 80×200 to 180×200.
We also carry out non-standard orders.
Mattress thicknessHere we also have limitations. Due to the fact that the depth of the casing is predetermined, in order for the bed to close properly, the mattress for a murphy bed should be a maximum of 22 cm high.
This is very important not only for the comfort of using the bed, but also for the safety of users and the stability of the entire structure.
Type of mattress
There are many variants of mattress fillings on the market. The decision to purchase depends on the individual preferences of customers. The most popular are latex, foam and spring fillings. However, only spring-pocket mattresses will work in a murphy bed because foam mattresses are too light, and latex mattresses are too heavy and in a vertical position they bend, pushing the front of the bed out. Thanks to the spring-pocket filling of the mattress, the bed will open and close completely and will be stable and safe to use.
Correct mattress weight in relation to its width:
90 – 17 -20 kg
120- 20-22 kg
140- 22-26 kg
160- 26-30 kg
180- 30-33 kg

Why does the mattress in the murphy bed have straps?
The straps are not used, as Customers sometimes think, to hold the mattress in place. There is no such need. They are an element that allows you to attach bedding and close it in the bed together with the mattress. An element that is standardly included with each of our bed models.
